Wednesday Night Rivalry is here! 11/18/15

I am ready to see if my boys can light up the ice. They haven’t been playing their best and I will be the first to admit it. I can’t just gun and blame the new coach or say it is because Babcock is not here. I will say its because of how they are playing on the ice. It is as simple as that.

The Capitals will visit D-Town tonight, 2nd in the Metropolitan. They are at a record of 11-4-1. Detroit will hit the ice tonight as 3rd in the Atlantic with a 9-8-1 Record. Doesn’t look too promising with stats like that for the 2015-2016 season.

But what does Detroit have against the capitals? A few things. Detroit has 11 Stanley Cup championships where as The Capitals have a Goose Egg. Detroit is currently 1-0 vs the Washington Capitals. That’s a plus with the record they have this season.

The Capitals also have a key player who is trying to become one again NHL’s all time leading goal-scorer among Russian-born players when he and the Capitals make their second trip to Detroit in 8 days, tonight.

Ovechkin tied Detroit’s very own, Sergei Fedorov’s, record when he scored his 483rd career goal in the second period against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 7; since then, he’s put the puck in the net twice only to have each goal negated after a coach’s challenge.

The Red Wings have their fair share of talented players as well. Henrik Zetterberg currently leads the team in both points and assists. Even at 35-years-old, the Sweden native is continuing to show that he still has what it takes to be amongst the NHL’s top players. The Wings also got back another key piece to their team, Pavel Datsyuk, who has been out due to injury. Dylan Larkin, Tomas Tatar, and Gustav Nyquist all have ten or more points for the red and white half way through November.

When it comes to the goalie matchup, we can expect Braden Holtby to take the ice for Washington while Jimmy Howard does the same for Detroit. Both individuals are respectable net-minders.
