Wants.. needs.. desires

Many believe they are all the same.. but they really aren’t. Take a good look at them.

A need is something you cannot live without, such as air, water and food. It is something that is a functional need. A want is something that you don’t absolutely need but will make your life a little better, a nicer car, a bigger house, more expensive clothes. It’s more of a physical benefit. And then there is a desire. A desire is something you wish to have, regardless of your needs and wants. Thus, you may lack the want or need for sleep or food but still desire sex. It’s an emotional satisfaction.

As we grow older we start to realize this an put our lists into place, realizing what is what. Figuring out what needs to go into what category to make our future. At the same time, what is in our lives plays big parts in that.

This doesn’t mean you should get rid of all wants in life. We are all good people and we find ourself wanting THINGS.

You may find yourself saying:

I want to love and be loved”

“I want to be a size _”

“I want to take a trip to __”

“I want a million dollar home”

“I want to run away to a deserted island”

Sure some seam reasonable, some are more of a desire than a want, and some may even be a need. But remember to still make space in your life for your inevitable wants.

Still keep in mind of what is a need. It’s something that keeps you living, breathing, going, moving.

The wants, sure, you may want to take that bath, but do you need to do it with the most luxurious, and expensive bubble bath.

And the desires, you might wish or long for something, someone, but trust me you are going to be okay with out that ice cream, or Ryan Gosling or Scarlett Johansson or whatever else you have going on.

Wants and desires can have some fine lines to them sometimes, and your mind will play tricks on you as to what categorizes where, but you will figure it out in time. But make sure you do it, before it’s too late.
